For tabs and more information: redsgshredder.com This is a lesson on the basics of rhythm guitar playing. Some of the topics covered are drum beats, timing, and what to listen for when playing along with drums. I suggest learning easy power metal songs to practice changing chords quickly and sharply to make your playing sound tight and on beat.

Talking about learning rhythm guitar, here’s a video all about the basics. It covers the timing, drum beats, and what you need to pay attention whenever you play along with drums. The presenter also offers tips for a more quick and sharp play of the rhythm guitar while sticking tight and upbeat to the tune.

A good example of what your talking about at 4:20 is the song “Waking The Demon” by Bullet For My Valentine.

I think it really depends on the situation. There are a lot of songs that use different ways, and they all sound good. For example, a lot of groove metal like Fear Factory or Meshuggah have the rhythm guitars, bass guitar, and kick drum all synchronized. So it all depends on what the song is supposed to sound like and what the songwriter is trying to accomplish.

Well I generally think you want to have a rhythm guitar in most of the time. There are a few times when you might want to take out the rhythm guitar, like during a crazy solo or something. For example, check out the song Walk by Pantera, RIP Dime.

Rhythm guitar is the guitar playing you hear during the majority of the song in most common metal music. Riffs, chords, and that sort of thing. Bass is similar to rhythm guitar because they usually play similar parts, but not always. Aside from that a bass guitar has much bigger and longer strings, so it sounds a lot lower.

I like this tutorial despite the fact that I don’t play guitars (I am interested in guitars since the time I start listening to Metal)

oh and also playing like Dragonforce is a bit WAY TOO FAST… but that also depends which song it is (at least some of them aren’t as insane as FotS or TTFAF)

Then what is the difference between a rhythm guitar and a lead guitar?

@Fallst4d Well it’s just the style of playing. Rhythm is the backing to a solo.
